....Otom Charters-Jaffe is a sculptor based in Pawtucket RI where he has a studio shared with other artists. Although he works in different media, his primary choice is glassblowing which he has taught and demonstrated at Goggle Works in Reading, PA and Avon Place Glass in Cambridge, MA.

....I have always been attracted to many of the shapes and forms found in nature. They are what I draw my inspiration from. I have chosen to use glass as the primary material in my work for two reasons. Firstly, is the uncontrollable desire I have to work with the material leaving me no choice. Secondly, it allows for the creation of almost any shape and form that I can imagine.

....Most of my work deals with issues of time and growth. The forms I use are based on plant, and more specifically seed images, that I have observed in nature. The way a seed will grow and become a plant has always fascinated me, especially in the early stages of life. These sculptures represent a still moment in the life of a being that is growing and adapting to the environment around it. I am using this idea of new life to create sculptures that hopefully will give the viewer questions of what theses forms may eventually grow into.
